TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Length of position: 10.5 months

Hours: 12:00 A.M- 8:00 A.M

 

SUMMARY

Assumes responsibility for the physical and personal well-being of the students and monitors and supervises students during the night hours when students are preparing for bed, sleeping, and waking in the morning.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Remains awake to monitor and supervise students during the night shift hours.
  • Wakes students in the morning by going to each student’s room; supervises students walking to/from the residential cottage/dorm
  • Administers appropriate behavior management.
  • Carries out the instructions of the Night Supervisor and Residential Specialist/Instructor
  • Assists students in proper grooming, personal hygiene, table manners, and cleaning duties
  • Documents bed checks of students at no more than 15-30 minute intervals by checking each room and observing/noting student activity.
  • Work in the area assigned by the Overnight Supervisor.
  • Completes necessary dorm/cottage records, reports, and paperwork, and prepares materials for programs
  • Obtains and maintains certification in the school’s preferred method of supporting aggressive behavior (The MANDT System for behavior support.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent certificate
  • At least 6 months experience working in child or special needs population care.
  • Sign Language:  At hire, the applicant must have sign language skills equivalent to a Signed Communication Proficiency Interview (SCPI) level of Intermediate. The ultimate required proficiency level for the position using the levels designated in the SCPI is Intermediate Plus. If hired with sign language skills below this level, you'll be required to participate in signed communication learning opportunities on a regular basis until you have achieved the sign language proficency level assigned to your position.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year of experience in child or special needs population care; OR two years of coursework related to child growth, development, care education or similar area; OR Bachelor’s Degree
  • Post secondary training in counseling, psychology, child development, or education
  • Experience at a residential school for the deaf or another residential childcare facility
  • Experience in teaching and caring for children and youth with and without disabilities
  • Experience working overnight shifts
