TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Length of position: 10.5 months

Hours: Typically rotates two work schedules with other Residential Supervisors

           A. Sun 7:00 PM-11:00 PM & Mon-Thu 2:00 PM-11:00 PM

           B. Mon-Thu 2:00 PM-12:00 PM

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Performs advanced (senior-level) work supervising staff and students.  Work involves overseeing the daily operations of students, supervising shift leaders for assigned facility dorms, and supervising and conducting youth programs.  Works under moderate supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least five years of experience working in residential school-setting
  • At least two years of experience coordinating or supervising program serving deaf and HH students
  • At least 20 hours of coursework/workshops/training related to child development, social and emotional learning (SEL), behavior management, and/or leadership.
  • Sign Language: The ultimate required proficiency level for the position using the levels designated in the Signed Communication Proficiency Interview (SCPI) is ADVANCED

  

Desirable Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, psychology, child development, social work, education
  • Three years of experience implementing Behavior Intervention Plans and/or Social and Emotional Learning in a residential program
  • Five years of experience supervising an education or residential program
  • Crisis Prevention Certificate (i.e., the MANDT System, Crisis Prevention Institute, etc.)
  • CEASD Student Life Certification
  • Proficient sign communications skills

  • Knowledge of techniques used in planning and supervising recreational and social activities on a residential setting
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent problems, growth and development

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises Residential Educators (DRE/NRE), Student Resources Specialists, and Student Development Coordinators; hires staff, creates work schedules, evaluates their direct reports work, provides constructive feedback, and completes performance evaluations.
  • Works with Student Resources Specialist and Student Development Coordinator in developing programs/activities aligned with tiered services to support students’ Social and Emotional Learning.
  • Leads and/or participates in department-level MTSS program to evaluate programs and services.
  • Ensures management that student behaviors and disciplinary issues are addressed individually in accordance with the school’s policies and procedures and with dignity and respect for all students.
  • Collaborates with school leadership staff on the development and implementation of the District Improvement Plan and the TSD Strategic Plan.
  • Ensures a healthy and safe environment in dormitories to promote positive social interaction.
  • Attends students’ ARD meetings and SST to ensure support plans are in place after school, or any meetings related to students.
  • Assists in planning and conducting orientation/in-service training for residential staff.
  • Provides information to Director and Assistant Director regarding budgetary needs for the department.
  • Audits the facility and grounds for maintenance problems and adherence to fire and safety standards; requests services for cleaning, janitorial and environmental tasks or coordinates such tasks with staff and students; conducts annual chemical inventory and property inventory.
  • Provides direct supervision of students during periods of staff shortage or during emergencies.
  • Coordinates parent contact information; coordinates student trust funds with parents; maintains regular contact with parents and responds to parent’s requests and complaints.
  • Collects data, writes and submits electronic and hard copy reports; completes and submits administrative paperwork including activity requests, food requests, trust fund forms, etc.
  • Responds to emergencies.
  • Communicates with Student Homegoing Coordinator concerning travel arrangements and Athletic Department for sports programs.
  • Performs Level 1 Self-harm Screening.
  • Serves on-call weekend as scheduled.
  • Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEP's.
  • Other SHARS duties as assigned.

Qualified TSD staff may have the opportunity to earn additional compensation through supplemental employment activities such as summer school positions, athletic coaching, academic tutoring, extracurricular sponsors, and short-term outreach programs.
