TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Length of position: 12 months per year

Hours: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Performs advanced consultative and technical work in the planning, development, financing, coordination, andimplementation of various programs of the Statewide Outreach Center (SOC) with special emphasis on 1) SOC programming, 2) instructional outreach, 3) building collaborative service systems and 4) consultative and technical outreach to parents, professionals, other governmental agencies, community organizations, local school districts, and the general public regarding issues related to the education of deaf and hard of hearing children. May train others. May work with others on special projects. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in education of the deaf, deafness, communications, rehabilitation counseling, education, or psychology; OR Master’s degree and six years of experience in the area of education of the deaf or deafness.
  • Three years of successful professional experience coordinating outreach, resource, staff development, public relations, or project management for a school, university, or non-profit organization.
  • Three years of experience with data management and reporting.
  • Sign Language: The ultimate required proficiency level for the position using the levels designated in the Signed Communication Proficiency Interview (SCPI) is ADVANCED.

If hired with a sign language proficiency level below this level, you are required to participate in signed communication learning opportunities on a regular basis until you have achieved the sign language proficiency level assigned to your position.

 

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with software applications essential to office performance (e.g. Word, Excel, FilemakerPro or equivalent, InDesign, Powerpoint).
  • Experience in program assessment.
  • Experience in public speaking and delivering presentations to large audiences.
  • Proficient sign communications skills.
  • Proficient English language skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Collaborates with the Director and Project Managers in all aspects of SOC offerings including organization, planning, hiring, marketing, and development of policy, program design and evaluation.
  • Participates in the development of content, resources and programs to fulfill SOC’s initiative toincrease instructional outreach and/or online resources.
  • Coordinates and provides technical assistance to SOC stakeholders in various formats: e-mail correspondence, phone, conferences, consultations, trainings, workshops and/or support for families and students with TSD admissions.
  • Engages agencies/programs with related missions serving deaf and hard of hearing communities in collaborative efforts that maximize resources for service delivery.
  • Develops and maintains guidelines and processes for general visits, tours, observations of TSD campus and programs.
  • Coordinates tour schedules and assignments.
  • Improves/expands current programs or develops innovative, efficient and effective programs that have the capacity to reach stakeholders statewide.
  • Provides families information on TSD’s programs and services for the community, parents, and professional groups to stimulate interest in the programs and increase statewide recognition of the Statewide Outreach Center as a central, professional, and unbiased source of information and support.
  • Reviews and assists in documenting and evaluating information and data on service delivery system methods, outputs, and activities in order to identify gaps in sources and recommend improvements.
  • May train or supervise the work of others.
